Unreleased 1998-2008

There are many songs that we wrote and played for a while, but for some reason have not recorded yet. These are some of them.

The Wolf

Background: The music for this song was written by Teebs. The lyrics were written by Mike after reading Janusz Bardach's GULAG memior Man Is Wolf to Man: Surviving the Gulag.

I see a man in the streets, but I won't look him in the eye
I don't know his story, and I don't ask myself why
Why him and not me? What makes me so different?
And were our roles reversed, would he act differently toward me?

All my years have shown me that man is wolf to man
He preys upon the weaker, takes from them what he can
I'm told it's a cutthroat world we live in, where only the strong survive
But am I more wolf than I am man? Will I be more wolf than man?

Some kids have no books, and others go to bed hungry
Some live life scared, where's the love? Where's the money?
Bullies keep on bullying, politicians keep on lying
A CEO rakes in millions while he sends his workers packing

All my years have shown me that man is wolf to man
He preys upon the weaker, takes from them what he can
I'm told it's a cutthroat world we live in, where only the strong survive
But am I more wolf than I am man? Will I be more wolf than man?

Mommy Won't Buy Me Any Crayons

Mommy won't buy me any crayons
And all my crayons are broken
Mommy won't buy me any crayons
Any all my crayons are broken
Mommy won't buy me any crayons
'cause my sister drew on the walls
Mommy won't buy me any crayons
She's the meanest mommy in the world

Lattimer (The Gypsy Song)

Background: The song was written by Ray after listening to a Gogol Bordello album for the 900th time in a row back in 2007. The lyrics are about the Lattimer massacre of 1897 near Hazleton, Pennsylvania where law enforcement officers opened fire on 400 peaceful mine workers who were on strike, killing nineteen and wounding dozens more.

I work for ten hours underneath the ground
Where it’s dark as a dungeon, damp with dew
I know the old country was pretty bad
But there I didn’t slave for you
You treat like I’m less man than you
You call me hunkie to my face
You cheat me every single chance you get
You tell me I should know my place!

We won’t take it anymore
Ready for our place in the sun
We will fight for our rights
You can’t scare us with your guns

Give a cheer men, the union’s here
Five thousand strong we strike
Soon we joined by five thousand more
Men leap at a chance to fight
We work to spread our noble crusade
Four hundred miners march toward town
Sheriff Martin’s posse does like that much
They open fire, sixty men go down!

We won’t take it anymore
Ready for our place in the sun
We will fight for our rights
You can’t scare us with your guns (2x)
